Opera af Verdi, komponeret 1850. Originaltitel: Un ballo in maschera.
Handlingen foregår i Stockholm og drejer sig om en historisk begivenhed: mordet på den svenske kong Gustav 3. Men da censuren i mange lande gjorde indsigelse mod at vise et kongemord på scenen, ændredes person- og stednavne: Kong Gustav blev til Riccardo, guvernør i Boston; zigeunersken Mor Britta blev til mulatinden Ulrica, osv.
I København og Stockholm spilles operaen dog i den oprindelige version.
